If you’ve never dived into the topic, odds are that you probably think that all juicing machines are pretty much the same. However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. If you want to get as much juice out of your fruits and veggies as possible, then you need to get the best masticating juicer you can find.
As the name would suggest, these juicers slowly chew up the fruit or vegetable in question. These slow speeds help to extract and preserve all of the important nutrients from whatever you are juicing. Along with looking for the slowest working juicers on the market, we also looked for the quietest as well. Each machine on our list puts out less than 60 dB, which makes it much easier to utilize in a smaller space like a kitchen. Finally, we also looked for models that have a reverse function. This feature makes them that much easier to clean, which will keep them working correctly for years to come.
This masticating juicer has an RPM rating of 80. It draws about 150W of power, making it energy efficient to run. It is also very quiet, as it only runs at about 60 dB. This unit is both UL and ETL certified. It also has a reverse function, which allows the user to extract even more juice each time it is used.
What we liked: There is a lot to like with this juicer. For starters, it is UL and ETL certified. These certifications help to provide you with the peace of mind of knowing that everything is safe and healthful when it comes to the design of this juicer. Let’s be honest, after all, if you are using a juicer, you certainly care about what goes into your body. With this model, you won’t have to worry about any harmful chemicals or nasty particles being a part of your juice at all.
The model also features a large juice port, which makes collecting the juice nice and easy. It is also very simple to assemble and disassemble, which makes cleaning a breeze. The reverse function is another nice touch, as is the slower than average RPM, which helps to extract all of the juice, each and every time.
What could be better: Though this juicer does a lot of things very well, it must be said that its loading port is very small. Unless you are doing something that is already slim, such as celery or carrots, you are going to have to cut up the food you are grinding. While this is certainly not the biggest deal, it will add a bit of time to your morning routine, which could be a bit of a problem for anyone that is usually in a hurry in the morning.
This premium juicer is large and sturdy. It comes equipped with a longer than average cord, which makes it a good option for larger kitchens. This juicer has a powerful motor and also three different pressure settings. The company also offers a 15-year limited warranty.
What we liked: While this model is a bit more expensive than some of the other juicers on our list, it is well worth it. This machine has a powerful motor, yet still moves at the slow RPM speed you will need to make high-quality juices. It also comes equipped with three different pressure settings, which make getting the right flow nice and easy. It is also quite easy to clean, which is always a plus.
Another nice feature of this juicer is its cord. While many others on the market can only offer short cords that make it, so the machine needs to be near an outlet, this model comes equipped with a 64-inch cord. This longer than average length will allow you to keep the juicer in your preferred location, even if you have an older kitchen with a limited number of outlets.
What could be better: Even though this is a high-quality juicing option, it will need an additional strainer to reach its maximum potential. Without this strainer, a bit too much pulp finds its way through the juicing process. Thankfully, these strainers are not terribly expensive and don’t add too much time to the overall juicing process, which allows this to be a highly effective masticating juicer.
This is a value-priced juicer that comes equipped with a large speed range. It is also quite energy-efficient. All of the detachable parts can be placed in the dishwasher. This juicer is simple to assemble and disassemble as well.
What we liked: Aside from being priced to sell, this juicer has a lot to offer. For starters, it is easy to clean most of the parts. This is mainly due to the fact that all of the detachable pieces can be washed in the dishwasher. While this is not going to be effective for every single piece, it is still a huge time saver compared to most models.
As you would expect with a juicer with so many dishwasher safe parts, this is a very easy appliance to put together and take apart. The pieces fit together securely but can easily be removed, which helps to make it a quicker process.
This is also a great machine for anyone that likes to try different things. It allows you to adjust the mastication speed, which will result in different textures and tastes of juice. It will also allow you to find the speed that works best for your tastes.
What could be better: One of the best things about this machine is that all of its parts can be put through the dishwasher. While this is a great benefit, you might want to clean the auger and its chamber by hand. These parts are very difficult to get completely clean without a good scrubbing, which is just much easier to do if you do it by hand instead of using the dishwasher.
This unit only has one speed, which is 80 RPM. As such, it is quite an energy-efficient and is very easy to clean. The company offers a 10-year warranty on the motor and a 3-year limited warranty on other parts. All of the parts are 100% BPA free.
What we liked: This is a very energy-efficient, compact, and lightweight juicer. Its compact size makes it perfect for anyone with a smaller than average kitchen. Its lightweight design also makes it a perfect candidate to be stored inside of a cabinet, since it will be easy to put in and out quickly.
This machine is also quite easy to clean. It does not have as many nooks and crannies for the pulp to get stuck, which makes rinsing it out very simple. The BPA free materials also come clean very nicely as well.
Another nice point for this machine is that it comes with a long warranty, especially on the motor. The company offers a 10-year warranty on the juicer’s motor, which is one of the longest on the market.
What could be better: This machine is mostly made from high-density plastic. This helps to make this juicer nice and lightweight, but also makes it less durable than other models. The auger is especially susceptible to damage if you put anything too larger or fibrous through the juicer. Luckily, as long as you keep the pieces small enough, you shouldn’t have any issue with this otherwise great juicer.
This model features a wider than average chute. It is also quite compact and easy to clean. This model is also relatively easy to clean and is energy efficient. It only requires 150W and runs at 80 RPM.
What we liked: If you are looking to get a masticating juicer that has a larger chute, then this is a great model to check into. The tube is 1.6 inches wide, which makes it large enough to fit plenty of fruit without having to cut it up first. Not only will this ensure that no juice is lost in the grinding process, but it will also allow you to save a bit of time on prep work.
While this juicer has a larger chute, it actually is quite compact. This makes it very easy to find good locations in your kitchen. Even if you want to store it away in a cabinet, you shouldn’t have any issue getting it into place.
Another nice point for this model is that it is quite energy-efficient. It only needs 150W of power to operate at full capacity. This helps to make it a great option for anyone that wants to keep their energy bill as low as possible.
What could be better: Though the feeder chute is quite wide enough to accommodate larger pieces of fruit and vegetables, it might not be the best idea. If the fruit or vegetables are too large, you will probably have to run the pulp through twice in order to extract all of the juice. Thankfully, this can be rectified by cutting the food into smaller pieces before you try to grind it up.
This juicer comes equipped with everything that you will need to utilize it correctly and maintain it. It can be set to run between 40-60 RPM. It features a powerful motor yet runs at a quiet 60 dB. This model is also very quiet and features a large chute.
What we liked: Perhaps the best thing about this solid juicer is that it comes with literally everything you need to get started in the world of juicing. It has lots of accessories, which include a pulp and juice cup, as well as plenty of cleaning brushes to help keep the juicer in tip-top shape.
This model also comes equipped with a very powerful motor. While this does take a bit more energy, it is well worth it to really grind up the fruit or vegetables that you are working with to get a high juice yield each and every time.
This juicer also allows you to select the speed that you want to utilize. This variation in speed will let you make your juice the exact consistency that you desire.
What could be better: This machine comes with plenty of accessories, which is a huge positive. The cleaning tools are especially useful for this unit since you will need to clean it often. Due to the design of the auger chamber, pulp has a tendency to get stuck inside if you don’t clean it out regularly. While this isn’t the biggest deal for someone that only occasionally uses their juicer, it could be a big problem for a regular juicer.
This juicer runs at a very low level of RPM. It is also very powerful and quite compact. This machine also has a very wide chute yet is very compact and also operates at a quiet 60 dB.
What we liked: The first thing that stands out about this model is its extremely powerful motor. This model pulls a lot of electricity, which provides its motor with the power it needs to grind up pretty much everything. Its slower than average RPMs also help to remove every last drop of juice from the fruit or vegetables you are using.
This machine also comes equipped with a very large chute. This chute is more than large enough to remove the necessity for chopping or slicing your preferred foods before you grind them. This is, obviously, a big time saver. The reverse switch also helps to make cleaning a very easy process, which serves to save even more time.
What could be better: While you certainly do want your masticating juicer to run a low RPM, this model might be a bit too slow for some folks. It runs at an extremely slow 36 RPM. Though this slower than average speed does a good job of producing plenty of juice, it takes a very long time to produce glass. If you are someone that is usually in a hurry to get your juice before you jet out the door in the morning, this is probably not going to work for you.
Things to Consider
In this section, we will guide you through everything that you need to know to get the best, and most affordable, masticating juicer available. We have also taken the time to answer several frequently asked questions, so be sure to read through them as well if you need any further information.
What is masticating technology?
As we mentioned earlier, the term mastication means to chew. As such, these juicers do not grind up the fruit or vegetable that you feed into them. Instead, they slowly crush and press the food until all of the juice has been extracted. This process works better in a number of ways than a standard juicer, which includes the following:
Works Slowly – Since these machines work so slowly, they are able to extract every single drop of vitamins and nutrients from whatever you feed into them. This results in a dense and fibrous juice and completely dry pulp. This slow speed makes these juicers wonderful for use with thin leaves, which makes them very good for green juices.
Healthier – While it might seem unnecessary to move at such slow speeds, it is actually quite beneficial. The slow speeds allow the machines to limit the exposure of the juices to air, heat, and oxidation. This allows the nutrients and healthful enzymes to remain in the juice.
Less Exposure – Thanks to the limited exposure of the juice during the mastication process, these juices are also able to stay fresh for a much longer time. In standard juicers, you would be lucky if the juice was still drinkable after a few hours. With a masticating juicer, you can keep the juice for up to 72 hours after you first make it.
Features to consider when choosing a masticating juicer
Masticating juicers are highly specialized machines. As such, there are a lot of different features to consider before you purchase one. In this section, we will go through all of these points in detail so that you can buy your new juicer with confidence.
When it comes to finding the right masticating juicer, speed, or lack thereof, is the name of the game. Basically, the slower the speed that your new juicer works, the better it will be at extracting every last drop of juice from your fruit or vegetable of choice. Of course, slower speeds will also make the process take a bit longer, so you need to make sure you get a machine that fits your needs.
For instance, it might not be a bad idea to get a juicer with an adjustable speed range, like the IKICH CP215A. It operates at a variety of speeds to fit your juice needs, as well as your schedule. On the other hand, you could go with a single speed option. That will allow you to have a better understanding of exactly how long a juicing session will take you. If you need a bit more speed, then the Aicok Slow Masticating Juicer Extractor is a good option. It moves at about 80 RPM, which is still slow enough to make delicious and healthy juices. On the other hand, you could always go for a model like the SKG A10, which moves at 36 RPM, which allows it to pull out every last drop of liquid from the food.
Something else that you will want to consider is just how much electricity your new juicer is going to require. A kitchen can be a pretty heavy room, electrically speaking, thanks to coffee makers, microwaves, ovens, and refrigerators. You need to make sure that you are getting one that will work in your space without overpowering your wiring. Of course, the higher the wattage, the more powerful the motor as well, so if you plan on grinding up tougher fruits and vegetables, you will need to get a model with more power.
If you want to get a powerful masticating juicer, then the SKG A10 or the Omega MM900HDS are great choices. Both of these machines draw over 200W, which makes them motors some of the heftiest on the market. Of course, you could always go for a lighter duty model, such as the KOIOS 5100, which only pulls about 150W. This makes it an excellent option for softer fruits and vegetables, as well as anyone that worries about their energy bill.
Since kitchens are, generally speaking, relatively small rooms, the last thing that you want to get is an appliance or machine that makes a ton of noise. This is, of course, why we chose to focus on machines that were below 60 dB. DB, or decibels, is the scale by which all noise is measured. The higher the number of dB, the louder an item is going to be.
The reason that we looked for machines that were no louder than 60 dB is that that is the noise level of normal conversation. Basically, we didn’t want you to purchase anything that would be too loud to hear your family over, or that would lead you to start your day off with a headache.
Another important feature to consider is the cord length for your new juicer. This is especially important if you have an older home since you will probably only have a few outlets to choose from. By getting a model with a longer cord, you will have a larger array of spots that you can place your juicer and still utilize it without any issue. Of course, if you have a kitchen with lots of outlets and plenty of space, then the length of the cord shouldn’t be too big of an issue.
If you are looking for a model with a longer cord, then the Omega MM900HDS should be your first choice. Its cord is over five feet in length, making it an excellent choice for anyone that has only a few outlets to choose from. If the length of your cord isn’t a concern at all, then you might want to go for something like the IKICH CP215A, since it has such an affordable price.
Feeder chute width
Another key component of any masticating juicer is how wide the chute is. Obviously, the larger the chute, the larger the fruit or vegetable can be that you are griding up. Larger chutes will, however, slow down the juicing process, since larger pieces will take a bit more time for the juicer to process. They will, however, save you a bit of time on prep work, since you might not have to slice up the fruit or vegetables at all if the chute is wide enough.
The Haier Aeitto is a great option if you are looking for a wider feeder chute. It is large enough that apples and oranges would not need to be sliced before adding them to the machine, which, again, will cut down on your prep time quite a bit. Of course, if you don’t mind slicing things up a bit beforehand and would rather the juicing process didn’t take as long, then a model like the Aicok Slow Masticating Juicer Extractor’s chute should work just fine.
Something else that you will want to consider when you are looking for any new kitchen appliances is going to be its overall dimensions. You certainly don’t want to get anything that is too larger for your countertop or kitchen cabinets, since this will limit how often you utilize it.
If space is at a premium for you in your kitchen, then the KOIOS 5100 is a fine choice. It is quite compact, which means that it will easily fit into your cabinets or on your counter if you’d rather keep it out for easier use. If space is not an issue for you, then you could always go for something like the Omega MM900HDS. This larger than average machine takes up a bit more space but has the power to be an effective juicer.
Whenever you are buying a new appliance, whether it is a new refrigerator, washer, or masticating juicer, it is always a good idea to look for a model that comes with a good warranty. That way, you will be covered in case anything happens to it through normal use. Of course, you need to be sure to read the fine print when it comes to any sort of warranty.
Though all of the companies on our list are excellent manufacturers, it is still a good idea to really carefully read through the warranty information. Some companies will claim to offer an extremely generous warranty, but only actually cover some parts fully. It is always best to know precisely what you are getting with your warranty so that you are not unpleasantly surprised should something fail on the machine in the future.
Some healthy juice recipes
If you are just getting started in the world of juicing, then you should probably look up some simple, delicious, and healthy recipes. We have collected three different recipes here that are sure to make your tastebuds sing! For each recipe, you can use as much or as little of the ingredients as you like to fit your taste. Just make sure that you follow the size requirements for your particular machine and remove any skins from the various fruit and vegetables as you need to.
The wonderful thing about all of these juicers is that they are designed to be completely disassembled. After each use, you should take the machine apart and carefully rinse the pieces. This will remove any excess juice or pulp from the machine. These pieces should be allowed to dry completely before reassembling it for the next morning.
Every other day, however, you should take the time and wash these pieces rather than just rinsing them. This will help to keep them from breaking down too quickly. Some machines, like the IKICH CP215A, can have their parts washed in the dishwasher, which is a big timesaver. Just make sure that you don’t use the automatic drying feature, as this could cause the plastic parts to weaken and break over time.
Lots of folks like to think that they are getting a better product when they buy a centrifugal juicer rather than a masticating model. This is only true when you consider the speed at which the two different appliances operate. Centrifugal juicers are incredibly fast. They can operate at up to 12,000 RPM while masticating juicers rarely go faster than 80 RPM. While this makes the juicing process much slower, it actually works much better.
For starters, it produces a lot more juice. It also allows the juice to maintain all of its nutrients and vitamins since oxygen doesn’t enter into the process. This slower process also produces a juice that lasts much longer (up to 72 hours) than centrifugal juicers (only 5 hours).
The short answer is, yes, some of these juicers can handle harder items such as almonds. You will need to get some of the more powerful motors, however, since almonds are much harder than most vegetables and fruit. That would limit your choices to models like the Omega MM900HDS, Haier Aeitto, or, especially, the SKG A10. These models would be able to handle pretty much anything that you want to try out, making them ideal for harder materials like almonds.
Of all the different masticating juicers that we looked over, we think that the Aicok Slow Masticating Juicer Extractor is the best of the best. This model is energy efficient, easy to clean, and simple to use. Plain and simple, if you are looking for an effective juicer to help you make healthful juices, we highly recommend you try this model first!
The Omega MM900HDS is a high-quality juicer that has plenty of premium features. It comes equipped with a powerful motor, long cord, and is quite easy to clean. It also has three different pressure settings to choose from to make sure your juice is just the way you like it.
If you are someone that thinks that the best masticating juicer is going to be the most budget-friendly, then the IKICH CP215A is the model for you. It has a wide RPM range to choose from, and most of the parts can be easily cleaned in the dishwasher. It also has a powerful motor that makes grinding up your fruits and vegetables easy.
